Glenwood Ave Arts Fest

So we took a few months off to relax our clarinets, but we’re back with a pair of shows at Duke’s!

The first one takes place during the Glenwood Ave Arts Fest, which is going on this Saturday and Sunday at Glenwood and Farwell Ave (a few blocks south of the Morse Red Line stop).   Come out to see the artists, then when it gets too hot, you can duck into Duke’s to cool off while you hear us play.  We’ll be on between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday, August 21.

If you’re at the Glenwood Ave Arts Fest on Sunday, check out our friends in the Prohibition Orchestra of Chicago, playing Sunday from 2-5pm.

For everyone who can’t make it this weekend, we’ll be back at Duke’s on Sunday, August 29, from 4-6pm.  We hope to see you then!

Chicago’s Next Hot ‘Hood Welcomes ChickenFat

According to the Red Eye, Avondale is Chicago’s “next hot ‘hood“.  It’s about to get hotter on April 17th, when we bring our sizzling klezmer sounds to Relax on Milwaukee.

Relax is my favorite sort of neighborhood bar; it’s got a friendly staff, inexpensive drinks, and pool and darts to keep you entertained between sets.  There’s even free popcorn.

The Reviews Are In

Jack P. posted a Yelp review of our last concert:

“The orchestra of eight was jumpin’ with Tango and Klezmer…. The band kept playing their tangos and rocking the joint. We were so close we could have had their children. There was eye contact. We all smiled back and forth. And finally the music stopped.

I rubbed my eyes to wake up, Turns out it wasn’t a dream. Just a cozy January Sunday night at Duke’s with the ChickenFat Klezmer Orchestra. Surreal, yes. Fun? You bet.”

Everyone had so much fun at the Duke’s Hideaway show that we scheduled another show:

Milly’s Almost All Kid Holiday Spectacular

Eeee! We’re super exited to be playing a few songs for Milly’s Almost All Kid Holiday Spectacular. Some of you may remember Milly’s Orchid show, a “vaudeville-meets-Grand-Ole-Opry extravaganza, a place where comedians, monologists, filmmakers, musicians, jugglers, lariat twirlers and just about everyone else you can imagine got a chance to strut their stuff in a nightclub setting.

Well, Milly (aka Brigid Murphy) is now doing a kids show at the Old Town School of Folk Music. It’s going to be a ton of fun.

Besides a costume parade for the kids, the spectacular will feature these performers:

The Blisters featuring Spencer Tweedy, Mini Midnight Circus, Holy Cross/IHM Marimba Ensemble and Choir, Wilson Brehmer, Hula Hooping by Annie Warnick, Jane Baxter Miller, Juggler Bruce Bailey, Berger Park Bucket Drummers, Katie Kot, Kai Juhlin, Jake Smith & Aylin Bayramoglu as The Sequinettes, and much, much more!

There will be two shows on December 13, at 3:30pm and 5:30pm. Click here for tickets and more information.

If you can’t make it to see us at the Holiday Spectacular, come see us play the night before at Relax:

Saturday, December 12
Relax on Milwaukee

2937 N Milwaukee Ave
Chicago, IL
9pm
