Stuart Rosenberg & Jon Spiegel

January 26th, 2011 by brian
Respond

ChickenFat learned the klezmer tradition and developed our sound under the excellent mentorship of two great musicians, Jon Spiegel and Stuart Rosenberg.   Chicago gets a rare treat this Saturday when the two of them perform together at SPACE.  From the website:

Together, Rosenberg & Spiegel anchored the legendary Otters band, which had an amazing 5-year run of Tuesday performances at Schuba’s in the 20th century. This evening will recreate that magic musical adventure, as well as create some amazing new ones.

I was lucky enough to catch the last Otter’s reunion show, and I recommend checking out this concert. Rumor has it they’ll be throwing in some klezmer tunes.

Saturday, January 29,  8pm.

For tickets, visit: http://www.evanstonspace.com/

Speaking of SPACE, we’ll be opening for Caravan of Thieves there on February 16. More info to come.

Old Town School Performance

As I’ve mentioned previously, the ChickenFat Klezmer Orchestra started making music together at the Old Town School.  They just posted a video of us playing at the graduation concert the school has at the end of every session:

Playing a medley of Nifty’s Freilach and Angels

If you haven’t had a chance to take a class or attend a concert there, I really recommend it.  It’s a magical place and a wonderful Chicago institution.

Upcoming Concert!

If you have any friends in Grand Rapids, MI, please let them know that that part of our band will be playing a concert there in January. Road trip!

Glenwood Ave Arts Fest

Respond

So we took a few months off to relax our clarinets, but we’re back with a pair of shows at Duke’s!

The first one takes place during the Glenwood Ave Arts Fest, which is going on this Saturday and Sunday at Glenwood and Farwell Ave (a few blocks south of the Morse Red Line stop).   Come out to see the artists, then when it gets too hot, you can duck into Duke’s to cool off while you hear us play.  We’ll be on between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday, August 21.

If you’re at the Glenwood Ave Arts Fest on Sunday, check out our friends in the Prohibition Orchestra of Chicago, playing Sunday from 2-5pm.

For everyone who can’t make it this weekend, we’ll be back at Duke’s on Sunday, August 29, from 4-6pm.  We hope to see you then!
